It does not look to have the markings of Diamond back water snake.......but I don't have a better guess. Maybe it is just a young DBW and the marking are less visible.

He was escorted with the business end of a palm frond from the road to the adjacent high grass. Myself and the gang killed enough hardhead catfish this weekend to harken the Gene Hackman line from Unforgiven "Ain't we seen enough blood tonight?"

the diamondback water snakes get big, and fiesty. i've been bit a couple times by them while running gilnets as a kid. they think they are a water mocassian but without the poison.

Shamelessly bumping this. Anyone else have a guess?

Mr T 09-04-2013 04:35 PM

yes, Diamond Backed Water snake

Duck Butter 09-04-2013 08:17 PM

Not a diamond-backed but a green watersnake aka MS green watersnake aka Nerodia cyclopion like someone above said

if you have a pic of the belly it should have little black half-moons on its belly

Like YOU said above, sorry!

Since we are using quotes and pertaining to the hardheads; Like Captain Redlegs from the Outlaw Josey Wales said, "Doing right ain't got no end".
