West Cove
 

First time poster whats up guys.

I have a question about navigating West Cove. I will be launching out the Hog Island (think thats the one) landing. Trying not to run into any underwater obstructions.. can someone give me pointers?

You probably will be launching out of the west cove launch, it is one further south than Hog Island. West cove launch is much better and leads right into west cove but beware 100 crab traps at mouth of canal. Hog island launch is not great and canal is silted and shallow at spots. West Cove is forgiving on high tide but beware low tide or strong north winds, it can get very shallow.

Ditto what cduhon says. The West Cove launch is the one you want. It's a straight shot down a fairly deep canal into West Cove. You will see all the crap traps. It does get shallow out there. I got hung up in some bad mud along the east bank of west cove so be careful.

thanks fellas, will look out for everything that you guys said. Is there any chance of hitting any reefs out there, or are they far enough under to not be a problem?

Right now should be fine with all the south wind but once north winds start blowing then beware. Not many large oyster reefs left, they wipe them out during oyster season.
They been having redfish along the banks and near cuts to marshes, keep an eye out for any shrimp popping or trout schooling if water is calm. Good Luck.
