Big Day, this Saturday!

Man, I am pumped and, nervous! This Saturday, in concert with a great group of friends, staff and, supporters, my collision center has the great honor of feeding the Nat. Guard 927th before they deploy to Afghanistan for the next 13 months! We will be feeding 90 troops, their wives and, kids!

This deal has been a long time coming and, I guess, with the reality REALLY setting in on how many people my friends and, I are feeding, I may be a little jitterish!

I have to say that I am truly honored and humbled to be surrounded by such great men and, brave families! Yeah, I have a bit of a twitch right now but, my only true hope is that, in 13 months, we can feed the same 90 men when they ALL get home! I know that I will be there when they get back, big smoker pouring it out the stack!

I will do what I can to get pics this weekend, families permitting and, of course, I'll post a full report. This is way better than a fishing trip, in my mind!

Corey, I am mailing a "token of appreciation" to the shop tomorrow. Please apply towards anything needed for the 90 men/woman.

This is a great thing you are doing. What is the address to your shop, I'd like to pitch in a little something to help out as well. Sam

Guys, I appreciate the kind words, I really do! While I'm not asking for any help, any donations can be sent to 119 N. Pleasant Ave., Gonzales, LA 70737

This is going to be a very expensive venture for my shop but, we do have some outside help coming financially. I know there are several funds set up for soldiers and, their families and, anything surplus will be donated to one of these groups on behalf of SaltyCajun.com.

Done....

Guys, it was a helluva ride today! We found out at 10 am that we had UNDERestimated by at least 100 people!! To those not in the know, that's HUGE!

We went from 90 to 200 with 1.5 hours left. Somehow, we managed to feed everyone still. Eman, my dad, my wife and, a slew of others managed to get it done!

Great work by everyone involved and, I have been humbled and educated all in one day.

I'll post pics tomorrow for everyone to see just how crazy it really was, although, I don't feel that the pics will do justice for what the heck actually took place today!

southern151 09-07-2013 08:05 PM

BTW, we were only 45 minutes late on our delivery time. We served by 12:30 still! Men, I'm on cloud 9 tonight being surrounded by the greatness I was surrounded by!

It really is! Some say 225. Others say near 300. Either way, it's a lot more than what we were told!

eman 09-07-2013 08:46 PM

i figured it at closer to 300 by the amount of tables n chairs they had set up. Either way it was a whole lot more than the 90 soldiers and some family members we were told to cook for.

jchief 09-07-2013 08:48 PM

Great job guy's.

Thank you, Jude. It truly was a labor of love. I'd be back there to do it again tomorrow morning if they 'axed" us to be there.

It was one of those "crowning achievement" days for me today!:work:
