Best Flat

I'm thinking of buying a 17 or 18 foot flat. I basically want a do-all type of boat with low maintenance and low cost to operate. What brands do you all like?

Sea ark does make some stout boats but like you said they are not cheap. They make a super jon model that has .125 gauge aluminum.

No desire to spray, but that War Eagle looked good. It had a Suzuki 140

Alweld

I have an Alweld now but have owned many others. My next Alum boat will be a custom built.

I have an xpress well actually three right now. They are good boats for the price. But looking at the 20 ft gatortail with 60 inch bottom with a 150 Yamaha sho. To do everything from fishing Toledo Bend to Big Lake.

Aluminum place in St. Martinville crimps it all. Bet you can get one built $3000-$3500. I priced material it's around 2200-2500. The salesman there has a buddy who builds them he'll let you know.

Thanks for the input

There's a place up the road from that sells Excel boats, they are nice as well. Don't know one way or the other about quality. Also checkout Craigslist in Gulfport, they have a guy that custom builds aluminum flat boats for a really good price. He does nice work too, I seen one of his boats at a gas station and it was finished really well.

I bought a Southfork 1848 tunnel at the beginning of the yr and love it. It's not a speed demon but it's dry and smooth. I still have to work on the setup to get to run like I want but I really like the overall set up of the boat.

I know a few builders that build great boats. If you want the numbers PM me

Slidellkid 09-24-2013 10:18 AM

Thanks. If I go this route I will sell my other two boats and would need to do that to pay for the new one. Will let you all know when I need numbers to custom makers.
