What do you consider a trophy?
 

I know there are a lot of opinions on this and there is no right or wrong answer.I consider by length 28" or better and by weight 8lbs or better.I personally have a 29 7/8" 8.5 lb as a personal best and a 29" 8.2lb as a second best.I like to get to know about my fellow trout addicts so I do ask questions like this.So what do yall consider trophy and yalls personal bests?

in my mind a 7 lb fish is great but i wouldnt hang her on the wall. 8.5 -9lbs hell yeah but id get a replica made and like the mama go. still tryin get that "one"

I agree with pox...i catch mostly dinks but would love to get on some big girls

That will work too!9lb or just legal,if its a trout Im happy.Just a troutaholic.

I agree length means nothing and 8lbs or bigger is a trophy but everybody is different.

That sabine river changes it all
 

It is funny how the sabine river changes things. If a texan tell you he caught a trophy he will tell you it was a 29" trout and alot of the time not know the weight unless they have a boaga. If someone from louisiana catches the same fish they will tell you they caught a 8lb trout and when you ask the length they will not know. It is pretty interesting how that sabine river changes things

I want something I can cook and eat.
If'n I catch a big'un, I'll cook it before I mount it.

Yeah you Texans go more by length and here in SWLA everyone goes by weight. The only time anyone in SWLA is concerned about length is only if its over 12" min.....right W?

I consider anything 8 + a trophy. I'm still looking, my personal best is only around 7.5. Too many 5 & 6 pounders in the lake for them to be considered a trophy.

Also, just my personal opinion, and I know many others disagree! But anything over 5 + lbs should be released to get bigger. Plenty of schoolies out there for the meat guys.

It's a fact that not all trout grow to this size and the ones that do deserve to be released IMHO

I released almost every trout i caught last winter and spring, and if i catch one 9 or 10 pounds this year it's gonna swim after a few pictures

My heaviest Trout ever was 10 pounds, and only 28-1/2 inches long, here in Jacksonville, Florida.

But a super stud for us here is a 10 that's 30+ inches long.

7.5 lbs and over. It'll swim away after pics unless it a 9 or a 10 lber
