Teal Worms?

Cleaning teal I found one with very small "worms" in the breast meat. They were smaller than a needle and about 1/8" long. There were hundreds in the meat right under the skin. Any idea what they are??

Rice breast. Small parasites. Throw em away

Had to throw one away wit the rice breast Saturday. If cooked they're supposed to be harmless though.

Ive heard that too but they just look nasty when you cleaning them i couldn't imagine cooking them like that harmless or not.

I throw teal away also but it's weird because I don't throw trout with worms embedded. Would you even know the parasite was there if you plucked your bird vs skinning, which you apparently did to be able to see the parasite.

I have probably ate plenty. We wax 90% of our birds. So I know I've browned a few down.

In my experience, the "rice-like" parasites have been very common for over 40 years.
We had to quit checking for them when we found over half our birds infested with them. Not very appetizing.

I Never skin birds so i probably ate my fair share.

It's a damn shame not to brown that whole bird in A gravy. Nothing better than some pot roasted teal. I save the big ducks for the grill, jambalaya, and gumbo.

I threw some whole grays and mallards on a rotisserie wrapped in bacon last year... Talk about good

AubreyLaHaye458 09-25-2013 12:13 PM

Usually the only ones we'll pluck are teal. Breast out everything else.

papap 09-25-2013 12:45 PM

Next time you kill some big old fat green heads. Peel the skin back. LOL

Top Dawg 09-25-2013 01:58 PM

I have found em in lots of ducks. But I have found teal and mottled ducks to be the worse for some reason.
