Big water decoy spread t

Guy I need some advice. We put a blind in the middle do about 15 acre pond on our lease. We have killed a lot of ducks on this pond hunting the edges but the grass and marsh has taken over blinds. We plan on putting out about 200 decoys. all types plus some coot decoys. What kind of Pattern do y'all think works best. We plan on surrounding the blind and be able to hunt any wind.

Leave little pockets on both sides, and put out twice as many decoys than you think you need

Make a big X with blind in the middle. Works on any wind and can move a few decoys and dramatically change how birds work.

I would do this and put black jugs in the gaps. 200 is not many dekes for a big water blind.

^^^this^^^

When moving a few decoys take some from the inside of the v on the downwind side. For example if the front of your blind is facing north. And the wind is blowing west take decoys from
East side and move them west.

Use the X pattern for sure and alot of deeks in that big of a pond. 200 hundred aint enough i would say more like 500 if not more.

mallarddecoyryt 10-24-2013 08:20 PM

Thanks for the info guys. This helps a lot I will try the x pattern

yep, closer to 500 would be my choice. alot of them black to simulate coots. leave a few holes in the spread. it will work!

200-300 hundred should be enough for the opener.

Brushed blind in the middle of big pond. What do y'all think just need to put the decoys out. Think I'm going to go with the X pattern.

Blind looks nice from eye level. Just gotta make sure you're covered up on top so they can't see you from birds eye level. Looks like u got that acconplished from what I can see.

jopete 10-29-2013 09:26 PM

always remember, if u can see the ducks, then they can see you!!!

them late season gray ducks are hard to finish if they can look down into the blind. good brush is super important!!!

Yeah I understand what y'all talking about. I sat inside and the top is covered very good. That salt grass is stuff to brush with. Takes a lot to do a blind but worth the work.
