I don't have anything but started dogs go for $2,500-5,000. When somebody says "find me a started dog" and then you find one and tell them the price, their jaw drops. Just making sure he knows what he's getting in to.

Depends on where you fall out between the $2500 and $5000 as to how trained the dog is. Trainers charge between $450 and $600 per month plus cost of a pup. Depending on how much you spend on the pup. You could come out better buying a started dog. If you don't mind missing out on the puppy months.

Im no expert but I think a started dog is usually less than a year old and is ready to hunt. A finished dog is older and ready for field trials and hunt tests

I bought mine "started" for 300$. That's y I ask. He knew sit(stay incorporated), here, heal.... And single marks.

To me, "Started" means steady to shot marking tough singles and simple multiples, through basics, double T, and handling well on simple cold blinds. The price of a well bred puppy is 1K plus and 6 months of pro training at $600 equals around $4600. People that sell these types of dogs for less don't do it to make money, they do it to get rid of the dog for one reason or another.

You sir, are absolutely correct.

I also believe the value changes based upon what type of dog you want in the future--a hunting companion, a field trial champion, a family pet, or a combination of all three.

You left out retrieve beer from cooler, whistles and stuff, and don't forget your hand signals

Don't need all them fancy hand signals. Got plenty of rocks at the boat launch.

All three will run about $100,000 minimum if you can find someone to part with him. They're worth what someone will pay no more no less. If they can't mark out to 200 yds + they can't stay, if they're nasty in kennel they can't stay, if they're not willing they can't stay no matter how much I have in them.
