Foggy Dulac 12/4
Quick trip this am in the fog. Wind was literally screaming yesterday afternoon, but dawn was definitely doable. Headed straight to my duckpond trout spot and a nice pod of keepers were tearing up small minnows as I pulled up. After about four swipes with a SS Jr, a fifteen incher finally got a hold of the hooks and managed to stay buttoned as I set the anchor. Boxed him and, seeing the bait they were working, switched to a jig. Kept only 15 inches and up and the fish were mixed, so grinded out three more before moving on.
Switched back to topwater ( fog and 66 degree water temp) but could only get slaps. Went back to jig and whacked a few more keepers. As I neared the deep water, ran into a few bigger fish before it played out.
I love topwater but I do love feeling that tap and swinging on something substantial!
A redfish had been crashing on the shoreline all this time and though that one escaped me, I did get his pal on a blind cast. He continued mocking me afterwards.
Done and back to the camp for nine. Wind was churning the Ship Channel by ten. Good times!
