Been in search of a small black iron for small dinners when I'm home alone or whatever is the case. I was picking up shells at gulfway this afternoon and saw the perfect size. For $17 I couldn't pass it up. Pulled a couple teal out and put it to the test.

Lightly clean it and spray it down with Pam.

clean with hot water no soap, then put on stove top and heat until it smokes then rub down with a towel with oil or spray with Pam and wipe out.

New pot

I wipe with salt to get out grit, rinse, put on stove with heat on to dry it (oil and water don't mix), wipe inside lightly with oil, then stow.

Most soaps these days are safe to use. Back in the day the day most soaps had lye in them. That's why they always recommended not to use soap just hot water.
