Last Island??

Does anyone know of a sandbar island out of Berwick called last island. I went there with my uncle years ago flounder gigging. I would like to go back but don't know how to get there. If anyone has gps cord. it would be greatly appreciated.

That's a FAR fun from Berwick. Probably 40 miles or so. Last island is south east of Bayou Dularge or a little south west of cocodrie.

If it's been a few years since you have been there, you be shocked at the lack of size of Last Island, it has developed a large cut right through the middle of the island. I don't have the gps cords handy, but if you have a gps it will show it clear as day on your unit.

Yea, we fish Last Island during the summer out of Cocodrie.
About a 45 min ride from there.

Last Island used to be a vacationing place for the rich and famous in the 1800s believe it or not, had a huge hotel there and everything. Hurricane took it all out

Heard there is a pretty good book out about it in its hay day , my wife's grandmother has it and was pretty pumped up about it when she got done.

Its called "the last days of last isle" . I own it, very good read. Barnes and Nobles has it. The death toll was more like 350 people. Most people were buried out there on the island or where they washed up on the shore close to grand bayou dularge. Think about that the next time youre out there. There was plans to build a large grand scale hotel there but the hurricane came and they nixed the plans. There was a smaller hotel that was there. The picture on the cover is what they wanted to build. Theres actually a list of all the people that perished on the island in the book

My grand paw told me his grandpaw use to take a horse and buggy to last island, IDK how true that is. He use to use to be a commercial fisherman before ice was available. He said they had drying docks all throughout the marsh where they would dry shrimp. Last Island had a couple docks.

Sounds like it's Last "Two" Islands now.
