Fish Kill in Dularge

But not due to cold weather! Although the water temperature plummeted below 40 degrees, the cold was replaced with more favorable fishing weather in just a matter of hours. It was a pretty day to be on the water (as if any day is not) and the reds cooperated! Well...sort of. I arrived on location around 8:00 a.m. finding a frigid water temp of 42 degrees. Thoughts of a non existent bite attempted to enter my head as I quickly shook them off and reassured myself that as the sun came up, surely they will eat. I had some guys on board from Minnesota and Maine. Both were ice fishing guides and goose hunting guides so it was relatively easy to assure them of this as well. 4 hrs later and a fish has yet to so much as nibble our baits. Don't panic. It's coming, I am certain of it! Then the flood gates opened and as though conforming to the lunar tables, the switch flicked on and fire poured from the depths! Cast after cast the beasts rose to the surface riddled by the hooks that pierced their mouths! 30 minutes later when the hoops and hollers ceased and the smoked cleared, 20 reds lay cooling in the 120 qt. K2. We tagged and released another 20, and I breathed a sigh of relief. High Life Tackle Anchovies in Green Onion colors did the work. Welcome back sun, warm air, and good times! For more good memories, fun, and laughs give me a call! I have Friday (tomorrow) and Sunday available for your enjoyment on the water! Capt. Those are Tommy's baits and you can find them at www.catchdat.com

The water levels are back to normal and the temperature has risen to 50 degrees. I just received word that the trout are biting like piranhas so I'm headed out the door! Standby for an afternoon report!

Check out this data station in Sister Lake. It has great info on instantaneous water conditions. You can see where the bottom fell out on January 6th. The graph actually says it's almost 47 degrees. I know that where I fish in the upper Dularge marsh around Deer Bayou that it's always about 3 degrees warmer.
