Don't know how many of y'all would mount a squealer but I thought it would be a nice addition to my collection. By far the prettiest and biggest one I shot so far. What y'all think?

You already know how I feel about it. That's the nicest one I've ever seen.

I'm no expert on ducks... what kind of duck is that?

Top Dawg 01-19-2014 07:17 PM

I have a black belly and fulvous mounted together.

Mount it. I have a fulvous mounted. Have shot a bunch of black bellies but didn't mount one. Planned on mounting one this year and didn't kill one. Usually kill 20-30. They are a beautiful bird. A lot prettier than the fulvous.

Black-Bellied Whistling Duck

It's crazy how much birds can vary just across a state even when they migrate from so far. Never have seen one of those or heard I anyone killing one except from y'all's area

We get a bunch in the summer and early fall, but they move on long before duck season.

AubreyLaHaye458 01-19-2014 07:41 PM

We usually see em in the spring and in teal season, but rarely if ever after that.

They normally hang around the marsh in Boston for most of the duck season.

I have killed some over the years. But this is the nicest one so far I was only gonna do 1 bird this year. I already have a pintail I'm waiting on, but I guess I'm gonna have to do this one too.

Shot a bunch in Venice before issac. They were living there.
I guess the storm pushed em out and they didn't return!
I see about 50-100 every night fly over my house in river ridge, they roost on the river.

Quackhead62 01-19-2014 07:47 PM

It's worth mounting. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Accidentally tore the head off trying to ring it's neck. I was gonna mount it with a boot on top of it stomping it in the mud!

So are these whistling ducks also referred to as marsh hens or gerbys?

bgizzle 01-19-2014 08:33 PM

Mexican squealers

No. They are called Mexican squealers by most people down here.

MarshRat89 01-19-2014 08:41 PM

We had a bunch last year in Klondike. This one was shot at quackheads place in Boston though.
