New bait to try
 

Just wondering if anyone else is like me and tries some new bait every year. I'm having trouble deciding what I'm going to experiment with this year. What are y'all going to try this year?

I have given up on the new flavor of the month baits, I look at them and see what "old" bait they imitate and use that.

I used to need two tackle boxes to hold all the baits and numerous colors of them but now I am working my tackle box down to just 2 or 3 baits in each style (hard, soft plastics, and topwater) and 2 or 3 tried and true colors (bright, dark, and multicolored)

Well my choice was a jerkbait (bass guy btw), because I have always heard it's an excellent cold water technique. Well two months in, and I must say it's going to be tied onto my rod for a while, I love to fish it! Glad I chose to learn it. Next on my list is probably drop shotting or Carolina rigging. I hate c-rigs...

My favs are c-rig and texas rig.... Ive done awesome in some ponds with dropshot too...

I've actually never thrown a drop shot... Only caught maybe 5 fish on c-rig. Confidence isn't there. I can fish the crap out of Texas rig

Did the drop shot a couple of years ago, shaky head, punching with heavy weights last year have stuck around and will always now. Jerkbaits are something I really want to try just don't get a chance to get out there in the winter too much, and therefore won't put the money there yet. Really do not get along with spinnerbaits (I know, laugh, south LA river fisherman and usually don't even carry one). I don't know what I want to try this year, still looking for ideas.

I love fishing a shaky head and a football jig.

I never liked fishing a crank bait until last year. One random day I decided to throw one and mashed em. Once I figured out the pattern and why they were eating it like they were I started using it at different places with success.

Cranks are hard to beat man. Even this time of year, I've been doing really good on lipless in 47° water

I've heard it a million times. lol And I've tried and tried and could just never hit it right, ya know. I've caught fish on em before but the confidence just isn't there, ya know

That's how I am with C-rigs, I know they work and I know they catch giants. I just don't like my bait just floating and dragging. I like to jiggle it lol

lol. I know what you mean. I grew up fishing shallow water so I never really got the feel for c-rigs and crankbaits and such. Caught my fair share of em on flukes and topwater and such though. lol

c-rigs in the spring are the ticket for giants

Never fished a dropshot either....this past fall I started throwing a swim jig with a berkley pittboss trailer and loved how hard they hit it.

You just cast and real? I was always intrigued by that technique. Never tried it. I fished a chatterbait for a while. They ok

Fish a swim jig just like a spinner bait. Let it fall over logs and in holes and what not. They think it's a perch or something. They inhale them.

Pit boss trailer.. Imitating a perch... Lmao jk man. I'm in need of trying this technique. I sometime cast and reel my flipping jig, but I can't ever recall having one hit while reeling. What brand and colors y'all find work good for this? Typically I'd throw black/blue, black/green with red flakes, and some other darker colors.. Is that what y'all use?

Yeah even the crawfish trailers when swam on jig look a lot like a bream the profile of it is right on. That's what makes a jig so good is its versatility.

I like those hack attack jigs. Color depends on water but Im a big fan of Green pumkin with a little orange. If I'm fishing a swim jig I like a 1/4oz.
