Spear fishing gun/gear?
I plan on doing some free dive spear fishing this year. Target species are triple tail, cobia, mangrove and fish that may frequent a sargassum rip line. Im experienced in diving and free diving but haven't spear fished. We fish the western side of La. What kind of spear gun and other gear would you recommend?

If you are free diving and have never spear fished I would hold off on cobia or any larger fish until you get some experience. I recommend a knife and cable cutter above anything else. One big fish wrapping a line around your leg and going to the bottom will quickly take your one breath away. JBL makes some good guns as well as Riffe. You could probably down size a little from a 450JBL as you won't be shooting large aj's, etc on a rip line.

Yea for free diving definitely rig up a quick release pin on your cable. If you come into Baton Rouge, go to underwater adventures. They have a great selection, good prices, and will rig up exactly what you will need to get started plus give you a quick rundown on all the dos and donts

Thanks for the advice.
