Found the mother lode of em last week in the flooded woods. They were hitting the boat and running out of that shallow water. Hit this one with the prop, gave it to a guy on the bank and he was pretty dang happy.

Hear the ribs are good to eat never had them though, worth keeping or not?

:rotfl:

I hear the ribs are good and its got me curious. Figure since the water is cold that now would be the time to eat em. Also heard time and time again that garfish is good, but I have eaten it a couple times and its not way up the list for me.

Fry it, drown it in ketchup, and chase it with a fifth of whiskey. You won't remember if it was good or not!

That's one of those big carp that jump out of the water right? Invasive species

MathGeek 02-27-2014 04:16 PM

You got some numbers on those?

We'd probably give it a try. We don't throw back common carp or gaspergou when we catch them, but we don't go out of our way for them either.

Black drum on the other hand.

Yep, my dad used to catch Blue Buffalo like that in his hoop nets along with Red Carp as well. He would sell them to the crawfish farmers for bait, but occasionally my mom would gut them and pressure cook them, bones and all and can it. Looked nasty in the jar, but she would make patties out of them and fry them and they were really good. As for Gaspergou, it makes a good coubillion since the meat is good and firm. Only thing better is the spotted or flathead catfish for that!
