Dulac afternoon quickie
Needed some saltwater therapy, so I shoved off this afternoon with no intel and low water post-frontal conditions, bluebird skies, but low wind.
Headed through the marsh - ten times the ducks I'd seen in this piece of marsh than the month previous, much less duck season - and ran into dirty, end-of-the-low-tide water almost everywhere, but began casting anyway in a deep water spot. Scored a nice big red gravy redfish after a few minutes, then nothing til a nice 18 inch trout sucked in my Terror Tail. Ten casts later a 21 inch trout did the same, biggest in many months. I then tried an XRap for the first time ever and scored dead sticking it on the first cast with a fifteen incher. Nothing after so started making the spring milk run, which produced a whole lotta nothing til a 24 inch red sucked in the bait. Found a buncha tailing redfish, but had a hard getting close enough and getting them off of whatever they were feeding on. Not a bad trip. Water was 61.7, tide was just starting turn around when I was leaving. Fun if not terrible. |
