Realistic price for bay boats?
 

I saw an ad earlier for a beautiful bay boat. The sticker price on that boat made me do a double take. :eek:

This got me to thinking. What could possibly make a boat worth nearly 6 figures? Who buy's these boats? Is it just a mine is bigger and more expensive than yours thing? :confused:

Then I wondered. What are realistic price figures for bay boats and what makes for the ideal fishing machine? Any thoughts?

Some of the prices are insane! The upper end boats aren't any better in my opinion. Just a **** measuring contest basically. Boats catch more fisherman than fish anyways!

Yep they are getting out of hand.....I can tell you one thing,most people including me thought dealers make alot of money on boat sales. The profit margins are terrible...the boat company's make the jack.

I caught more fish out of beater boats than nice boats that's for sure.

you can buy a $85,000 bass boat signed by some guy you see on tv or buy a $10,000 Cajun special and do more fishing and catch more fish from it because your not waxing and buffing that bass boat you put such a huge investment into that you don't want to get it dirty.

there is very little that seperates the cheaper low end boats from the top end pricey ones and quality has little to do with it, its usually just some fancy electronics you can buy and install yourself

for a while they tried to make every truck cost $50,000 but they weren't selling so they dropped the price to around $35,000 which is still too high but they found enough people willing to pay that so it stays high and they are always going to rip you off for as much money as some idiot is willing to pay.

supply and demand breaks down in controlling costs when people keep buying overpriced stuff just because they "gotta have it"

Did you really just say quality has little to do with it?

I would suggest doing some water tests on the different price ranges and make your assessment that way.

Quality has pretty much everything to do with it.

Let's be real tho them shearwaters are ridiculous. A triton , bluewave, blazer bay and a black jack will out ride it every time. Might not be as fast but way more dry.

That's why I had to buy a used boat.

Yeah. Shearwater, yellowfin are nice boats but do they catch more fish? I think I'll stick to my Blazer Bay. If I buy a new boat it'll probably a 24' Purebay or something along those lines. A Blackjack is at the top of my price range and unless they come out with a 24' I don't think I'll go there.

After fishing out of a Yellowfin, my Bay Quest feels like riding on a plastic barrel. Is it worth the extra coin for the Yellowfin? I guess that's determined by your bank account.

I think what it comes down to is minor details that each boat has different than the other. Maybe some manufacturers spent more money and time on a specific feature than others and vice-versa.

Yellowfin is making a killing, good for them, but I guarantee it doesn't cost anywhere near 100K for them to build one.

I'll take my triton over a shearwater any day

I think Haynie's are way over priced for the appearance of the boat too. They are a sweet riding boat though

It's all about demand. If people wouldn't order yellowfins and haynies quicker than they can build them they wouldn't be so high.

It's not that much for the hull.... But, Have you seen the electronics and stereo systems in those boats? Oversized motors too. It all adds up.

If I took my boat and slapped all the high dollar goodies on it, it wouldn't be hard to get the price way up there with a YF

You guys talk like price of materials, labor, insurance, taxes, administrative costs, etc... Have not changed since 1950.

How many people own a business here and would agree that to produce higher quality products with higher quality materials and labor doesn't cost a penny extra, and you can just rape the public for 1000% profit margin like it is nothin???

I almost droped a $100,000 on 243CC everglades during the Gulf Coast boat show in Biloxi. I agree when you step into a qualtiy boat like an Everglades or YF you can instantly see and feel the deference in quality. I would also say this... I am glad I did not close the deal on that boat because I really do not need something like that but looking for something like the 22' SeaHunt.
