Bad Gas

1 Attachment(s)
Well I siphoned right at 50 gallons of bad gas out of my boat yesterady.... Now what in the Hell do I do with it? Grass killer? Just joking for any DEQ people trolling the site..... Kinda. :grinpimp:

My coon@$$ contraption. Drained the tank in about 30-45 minutes.

Is that a small vacuum cleaner (black and Yellow) behind the barrel and did you use it to start the syphon????

Matt G 04-14-2014 08:38 AM

Sure is. I tried the old fashion way and couldn't get it started. It was too much travel. Scared the crap out of me to try it, but I only put it on for maybe 2 seconds and pulleed it off and the fuel started flowing.

haoward 04-14-2014 08:41 AM

How do you know if the gas was bad? Outboard was acting up?

Matt G 04-14-2014 08:43 AM

It's been sitting in the tank for a year and a half now. I din't even want to chance it.

In that case, I would put some in your lawnmower and see if it is ok. If it is use it on all your lawn stuff.

Can't.... It's premix.

bad gas

I thought this would be a story about some killer bean recipe ! If you put in lawn mower it would fog the neighborhood. I had a friend that used a $800 Rainbow vacuum cleaner on gas in a jet boat years ago and when it blew up there were parts all over the yard and on the roof. Glad it worked for you and nothing happened.

doesn't matter, it will still work fine. it just smokes some.

lawn mowers will run on anything so lawn mower it until its gone.

if it makes you feel better go half and half with new gas when you refill the mower

lil bubba 04-14-2014 10:46 AM

if it been sitting in the tank a year and a half i wouldnt try to run it in anything...there are companies that pick up waste oil and gas . maybe you can find one in your area that will take it if you bring it to them...i'd also pull the drain plugs on the carbs and pump the bulb and flush all the old gas out before trying to start the motor...

Finfeatherfur 04-14-2014 10:51 AM

I would burn that heck out of that 50 gallons of gas!!! Between mowers and even adding some to vehicles, it would not be thrown away at $3.30/gal at the pumps right now. Adding 5 gallons to a 30 gallon tank of fuel on a vehicle will not hurt you.

DannyI 04-14-2014 10:55 AM

Burn mine in my mowers, was premix 100:1, but even 50:1 should be ok. Pour a little in empty tank and run, if runs ok, great, if not add good gas to it.

You can buy octane booster at auto parts stores.

Ratdog 04-14-2014 12:30 PM

No joke . I use mine for drive way. Keeps cracks clear year long. I use it for brush fires on my old property were I used to burn tuns of green branches. I don't have much other ideas for it though. And it seems to be hard to find a disposal place. But Lafayette has a drop off once a year for paind has and so on. So might hook up with a Lafayette guy .u might have to store it for a while but they might take it for free if you call city.

Dang Matt... Saturday was the annual LCG chemical dropoff at Cajun Field. I would call public works anyway and ask if they have a disposal spot that you can drop off at.

Just my freaking luck. I'll give them a shout. Thanks

fill your truck tank to 1/2 tank and fill it to the top with the premix. No problem, ran 180 gallons that way in my truck.

Exactly....Burn it baby......just think you will be cutting grass and fogging for the skeeters at the same time....:D

I'd dispose of it if you want... even pay for the drum it's in. Lol. Burn it 50/50 old and fresh in lawn equipment or 25/75 in the tow rig.
