Hi.. I just purchased a new Airmar transducer.. It's a Transom mount..

It can also be mounted in the bilge area with adhesive to shot thru the hull??

Mechanic wants to know where I want it mounted..

The previous transducer was transom mounted with my Furuno. The new Lowrance TD is mounted on the Transom.

Can I get the pro or cons anybody? Anybody have their transducer mounted inside the bilge and shooting thru the hull???

Any more noise interference shooting thru the hull versus transom mounted???

I don't like the way the Lowrance TD is working, is why I'm changing it out..

the pro to mounting in the bilge is just so you don't have to drill holes in the transom, that's it.

since you already have the holes there for it then there is no advantage at all to mounting in the bilge and it will be always more sensitive and accurate on the transom without the boat "filtering" the signals. now that said, I cant speak to the level of signal loss or how negligible it might be but there is some.

My Lowrance is mounted on the transom along with my side scan. Don't know about the bilge, but if I were going to replace it I would go right back with the holes already there instead of potentially creating more problems on too of filling unused holes.

My old transducer was mounted in hull. It worked just fine.

If you want to mount it in side the hull, you want to make sure its shooting through solid glass and not through glass/void/glass or some combination. Even delaminated glass won't give good result. It can not be a composite hull either.

If you through hull mount it (through the glass) you can use any epoxy and bury the ducer halfway into a big ole' blob of it. If the glass is solid with no delamination it's as clear as the transom mount.

I agree. In both of my bass boats this is the way they were mounted. Just will have a lot of fun trying to change one if if goes out.

Break it out of the epoxy, then grind it down to glass and remount. Been there done that.

How can you tell if it is solid glass?
