V-bay dead today

Fished till lunch time and caught one 16" redfish. Water was dirty as hell and the wind wasn't helping anything out. But it was still better than being at work.

Did you try cut mullet? Always works for me in the poo poo water.

Goooh 05-03-2014 04:48 PM

I didn't, And now that you bring it up "red robin" was always posting red catches on cut mullet

Quackhead62 05-03-2014 04:50 PM

Normally shrimp under a cork work for me with water like I saw today. The fish just had lock jaw

Yep.....gotta be fresh and bloody though. Frozen does not work near as good.

We ended up with 10 reds 6 drum & 1 flounder yesterday for 9:30 AM until the wind started nocking our socks off. Fished one reef in the back west corner of the pass where the water was pretty and headed in. BTW all fish were caught on frozen cut mullet. The red on the top went 26 7/8" & 8.6lbs, the one i am always looking for when i fish the SFA tournaments around here. Fate has it that i never catch one in a tournament.

Cut mullet was definitely the bait to use. we scratched out 4 on spinnerbaits then started spot hopping on the east side of marsh island. Ended up fishing the mouth of a canal catching 4 lb gafftop on shrimp. bait was everywhere, so we threw the cast net and caught some mullet. That softened the gafftop bite, and started picking up a few more reds.

we ended up catching 7 reds, 1 shark, gafftops and hardheads by the bucket... we got spooled twice, lost another shark, and lost at least 4 bull reds. we just couldn't get the big ones in.
