Taking my Mom saltwater fishing. Launching at Ellender's Bridge. Any suggestions ?
I'm taking my mom saltwater fishing for Mother's Day ( in between rain showers). She wants to go to intracoastal and fish near the bridge. They go fish off the bank there often. Does anybody have any suggested areas or baits that may help out ? I'd like to try to get her hooked up on something. We'd like to stay pretty close to the launch ( first time for me bringing the boat in saltwater).
Thank You in advance !! |
Choupique bayou. When you launch its just to the east and on the north side. Bait shrimp. I catch a lot of reds in there and there's some big drum in there

Don't know why it double posted. When you first go in, there's a big marsh on left side. Fish the opening there. Lots of other cuts and marshes. There's some shallow places in there so just take it easy.

Or, you can take a short [~1.5 miles] boat ride to the west of the bridge to the "Salt Ditch" which is on the south side.
Fish the mouth or go down the canal to one of the cuts that go back into the marsh. Most of these are shallow, so stay in the main canal. Use market shrimp and a 1/2 oz. jig head if the tide is running. |

Well we went this morning and we caught a few. Lots of hard heads and croakers. Mom and dad both caught little reds but no keepers. We caught a few keeper black drums but threw those back. The wind was pretty bad but all in all we had fun. Mom was pullin'em in left and right !Attachment 67105Attachment 67106Attachment 67107
