fourchon 5/26

went to fourchon sunday afternoon , buy the time we got on the water the tide was dead, and the beach was dirty ...no fish only had 1 blow up on topwater.
woke up early monday (today) n ran out the pass to the islands . it was a little to bumpy to fish the gulf side with all the rock bottom so i fished the backside but by 8 am the tide was crap ...boated 5 decent trout . ran offshore to try n catch some cobia , about 10 miles south there were miles of grass mats, lots of chicken dolphin under em but no cobia . back at the dock by noon

Still looks like a fun time!

So you can catch them under those grass mat? Anything to look for if I do see those grass?

Tete Dur 05-27-2014 04:21 PM

Just look down in the water. They'll be all over the place when you find them.

Howard. Anytime you come across a grass mat or floating debris you should stop for a few minutes and check it out. In blue water we would free dive it to see what is down there. I have also found plenty of fish on the large floating markers. When I had my offshore boat I loved fishing floating structure in open water.

Went out of Fourchon couple weeks ago and seen grass mat but it was broken up but didnt see anything jumping up in the air or bait fish

latravcha 05-27-2014 08:20 PM

If it is a large area of broken mat it is worth a try.

haoward 05-27-2014 08:26 PM

Do those fish tent to jump like bait fish or they just hang under the mat?

BayBolt23 05-27-2014 08:31 PM

Swarm under the mats! Y'all see them if they are there!

Toss a jig on side of grass mat, let it fall 6-8 feet and reel it back in a fast as you can. Whatever is under there will come out. Might have to make a few casts.

X2
Or a cork with a jig below it 4-5 feet pop it a few times then reel it back fast ... They chase it . Key to catching them is once you hook one try to keep it in the water flopping around because others will stay interested and you can catch tem too!
