Pond management?
1 Attachment(s)
My in-laws have an 8 acre pond that was dug out for hwy 71 many years ago. I've been fishing it for bout 2 1/2 yrs. biggest fish I have caught is bout 6lb last year and 1 bout 5 this year. Just wondering if anyone knows tips to which ones to throw back and ones to keep. It is full of bream and white perch. I keep anything from maybe 1 1/2 to 3-3 1/2lb.nothing over 4 for sure. On good days ill catch 10-15 . Today I went out and flipped a jig and caught prolly 15 or so biggest bout 4. Any suggestions to grow big ones.

Keep it simple stupid. Take out the ones you catch the most of, ie if you catch mostly 13" bass you would wanna take those out. I've also read that perch are hard to keep in check. Good luck. Good thing you got there. I wish I had access to a place like that let alone management authority.
I have 0 pond management experience. I mean zero.

Well good thing my in laws keep every bream and perch they catch so hopefully that will help. I would like to know how many bass are in in though. Wish I had one of those shock thingies to see.

pond management
The white perch eat the same things that the bass eat. so there is competiton between them.

pond management
I helped a guy a few weeks back on a fishing club. We stocked 60,000= 2'" bream for bass forage. $23.000.00 worth of those little fish and it is for the bass to eat. They had coppernose stocked years ago before the storm and they got to about 12" long and a good fighter. These ponds had a few bass caught from 5 to 12 lb before hurricane IKE hit here and flushed the ponds. Big bass were all up and down the hwy when we came home after the storm. They stocked the ponds after they got the saltwater out of the ponds. Bass fishing now you will usually catch a 3 lb to 5 lb bass each trip.
