fourchon or vbay launching snapper sat?

So it look doable sat for snappe. Calling for 1-2 out to 20nm from fourchon and 2 pass 20 nm.

West side calling for 2-3 vbay

Should I make the 2 1/2 hr drive to fourchon for snappers?

10 miles at the least to catch snapper out of Fourchon, I believe 45 out of SWpass. I would rather get fight a storm for 10 miles then 40. Also more people to help out if anything happens in Fourchon. Just watch out for the LOOP.

LOOP=Louisiana offshore oil port
This is where the super tankers unload and oil is shipped through a pipe line back to the coast. It is directly in the path from GI to the WD field an the canyon. They have a safety buffer zone with a very large an fast boat that will try and chase you down if you cross the safety zone. If you do attempt to cut through turn your gps an VHF radio off an make a run for it.

30 mi out of Freshwater City and you will be on snapper and mangroves. I've caught them in water as shallow as 50'. South of Joseph's harbor are platforms in about 45-50' in the 104 or 102 blk (been a while) and there were plently of 10-20lb fish to be had. We were fishing out of Acadiana Marina at the time so we had to lock-out to get in the gulf. If fishing the 104's (?) Joseph's harbor is closer than out of FWC but you will run in a canal for a bit and the opening into the gulf has a few bars to watch for. If out of FWC you are a mile from the beach at the launch and then a straight shot to the grounds. If you can get some Pogey oil, cooked elbow macaroni and sinking commercial fish food and mix it up in a 5 gal pail it makes great chum to get the big ones up close to the surface. I have sight casted to 20lb+ snapper that were 10 feet down or less in a chum slick. As a bonus my son loved to snack on the macaroni!?!?:spineyes:

And they have pipes submerged just below the surface running from the anchor buoys back to the rig to offload the oil. I'm sure the LOOP responder would get to you before you hit one he's got a pretty sick water monitor to spray you down with to.

Snapper

Loose way to much time at Joseph harbor, can't run out till sunrise. If you do hug the pilings on the east side at the mouth of the gulf. Merminteau is the key, will be there Friday am.
