New to the area, advice please!

From Houston area stationed on Ft Polk. I'm wanting to do some surf wading for trout. I don't have a boat but I do have a truck to access spots. Can anyone give me and good spots around Holly Beach? Can I wade waist deep and be good for some hook ups or do I need to get out to the other sandbars? Also, any bait shops around the beach area? I wanna throw some croaker if I can't get any hook ups on artificial. Thanks for any help.

Thanks man! I might have to take you up on that offer. I've been to Alex a few times. It's the closest civilization to me lol. Can you recommend any bait shops on the way to
Holly beach? If I'm makin two hour trips one way at 5am I don't wanna go too far outta the way to get me some croaker lol. I haven't been to Holly beach yet so I wouldn't even know where to begin looking.
