Point Au Fair
1 Attachment(s)
After our trip the other night my wife wanted to go again. So she and I brought our son Hunter this morning and fished some reefs on the back side of Point Au Fair. I forget how much I like this area and it's nice and close to home. When it's on here it's really on here. She caught one speck right at 6# and I caught a few between 4 and 5#. Ended with 3 limits with not a single throw back. The average size is around 2#. A great morning.
She has a lot of pics on her phone I'll post some more up later.

Great Report! We used to have a camp down in Shell Island so I very familiar with the locations. Did you fish the gulf side or the reefs in front of Point A Fur (Locust Bayou).
I was headed that way this weekend anyway might just go a bit further now.

Redaddiction it depends on your boat and how well you know the area. It's about a. Hour and 15 to Oyster bayou for me.

Didn't think the water would be pretty down there with the river so high right now. Did you navigate through Halters Island or straight down river?
Thats a one hour ride, deciding on some possible trout or fishing for catfish in Lake Palourde....
Still think it would be a good bite in the morning?

Water is green green and beautiful. I go by the Harpers island way. The its petty shallow so be careful.

Mine is gray. I didn't have it up though. My boat is a 22 foot blazer Bay it's white with gray sides. Tomorrow, I have a swim meet and Sunday I'm taking my wife to a show in New Orleans. We plan on making a trip to grand isle on Monday or Tuesday. I live in Berwick PM me and I'll send you my phone number and we can get together sometime for a trip maybe.

Awesome trip! I fish the are pretty regular, but always go inside the island & fish for reds. I'd like to learn more of the reef areas outside Point Au Fer to get on some spec's. Maybe we'll meet up out there one day, I'm in a blazer bay as well.
By gulf side, do you mean 27 or outside on the west side of the island?

I fish 27 but also ride along the shore watching for birds and bait. This morning we found the water ripping out of Oyster Bayou and the bait was going crazy right along the slack area. Started casting and letting the lure sink below the popping shrimp and it was two at a time. Also hooked a few big Gaftops and 2 reds right there.
I left my house around 3 so I could get back before it got to late. I had some other things I had to do today.
