Need help with schooling reds.

My buddy and I have been going out to his place in Grand Chenier and we go at a low tide and every time we go we see schools of redfish in his marsh. Schools and singles running up and down the banks. And every time we throw the bait in front of the schools, in the middle of them, and we throw in front of the singles on the banks. No matter what we use they never hit it. We have used cut mullet, live mullet, live shrimp on popping corks, live and dead shrimp on the bottom, gulp and we can't get them to bite. Does anyone have some advice on how to catch them? Any advice would be appreciated.

try a spinner bait or a topwater maybe

You sure it's redfish and not big mullet ???

If your seeing schools of redfish they 95% of the time will eat a car battery if you put in front of them ...

Red Ripper or Johnson spoon

Thanks guys, and we can see that they are for sure redfish, they are popping the surface and we can see their backs when they swim. When the tide dropped we rode by about a 15 lb red on its side in the mud.

Spinner bait works for me but if you make a lot of racket getting them in the boat the school will spook. Have murdered them in flat lake when they are schooling like that on spinners.

Hilarious

Might be alligator gar too. They'll boil the water like reds.

Hook, line, and car battery.

It is to shallow for you to throw your bait in the water near them... IF you fly fish, try throwing a fly at them... OR... DO what I do. Use your best jig, throw it in the marsh as close to the bank as possible and try to slowly drag the jig into the water. I have done this more times than I can remember and if there is a red in sight he will suck it up and run with it. I like to use 1/8oz vudu when their in very shallow water, it does not seem to get stuck in the marsh as easy as others do.

Good luck

Try this. Hang a 4" Gulp curl tail about 6" under a little clip on cork. Toss it out ahead of the school, take in your slack and point your rod tip straight out at the cork. When the school gets in striking range, lift your rod tip to make the curl tail swim. Don't pop it, as it may spook the whole school.

If they are redfish, they will hit either the bait or the cork.

i have had the same thing happen to me in some ponds in Leeville. I attributed it to the fact that there was so much bait in the ponds and all we had was artificial. The reds were busting and running everywhere and we could not catch them...

100% failproof way to get em

This wil work 100% of the time and only cost you a dollar or so if you have iTunes, if not may have to buy a cd.

1. download Florida Georgia Line's song "this is how we roll' or 'cruise'. Has to be 'This is how we roll' with Luke Bryan though and 'cruise' feautring Nelly, if not it will take longer but will still work. Hopefully you have iTunes because anywhere in southwest La is going to be sold out of these

2. put in boat and head back to that pond

3. if reds are still there, you need to somehow block the entrance of that pond so that the reds can not escape

4. Turn on Florida Georgia Line and CRANK IT UP!

5. You will immediately see the fish going crazy and trying to escape from that aweful crap (reason for blocking that pond)

6. All the fish will be belly up in no time

7. Net your limit of fish

disclaimer: you will kill lots of non-target animals such as dolphins and seagulls and crabs. Also if you feel a rumble underneath you, do not worry its just all of the old dead country singers rolling in their graves

Large treble hook, throw in the middle of the pack and yanks as hard as you can! LOL

Maybe a cracked crab too?
