Jetty Fishing Report: Bull Reds OK, not on fire

1 Attachment(s)
Managed two bull reds (on mullet) and three keeper gafftops today. It was our slowest day all year at the jetties, but we ain't been skunked yet. The tide didn't start moving until 2:00 PM. Water was a bit turbid when we arrived at 12:30, but was clearer when we left at 4:00 PM. One of the boys boated a bonus blacktip shark, which he found fascinating.

Less seaweed than we've seen in the water at any time since May. Water was calm with just a slow swell. It was hot and slow fishing, but I just chilled and laid down in the shade on the back seat under the Bimini top. I offered the boys several times to move to a different spot, but they liked things just outside the E cut and a few yards S. The E side has always been slower than the W side, but the W side was choppier today.

Nice report, nice fish, and especially nice glasses... Wish I could pull it off - which reminds me, time to take out the contacts!

Nice report

No pic of the shark :(. Was it a black tip or a bull? Those two are often times confused for one another.

Nice reds MG and those look to be some nice sized gafftops at the bottom of the pic. Happy for y'all bro :)

Thanks for the report. I was wondering if the sargassum cleared up any.

Still plenty of sargassum on this site.

Haven't fished 'em yet. Heard good reports. I really like Calcasieu because of the flexibility of the cuts (breaks in jetties 2/3 of the way out). We can almost always find fishable water on the outside on the leeward side. Goin' around the end is no fun when the S wind blows.

I expect all passes in LA have lots of bull reds. All the ones we've tried certainly do (Calcasieu, Belle, Caminada). I'm not really one to try new things when the familiar territory is working so well.

What are the lodging options over there? We usually stay in Hackberry, so that's a bit of a haul. Anyone know of rental camps over there? Anywhere between Mermantau and Cameron would be OK and we could try Mermantau when the weather looked ok.

Not sure. Could maybe camp at grand chenier park. Not sure what's down there. We just put in there sometimes to go offshore
