Does anyone know why they are overlaying I-10 from Welsh to Hwy. 165 (exit 44)? It was redone several years back, and it was still in good shape, I drive it often. I'm hoping this is being funded by the casino and not with our taxpayer money!

Are they redoing all of this area or just at the foot of the overpasses.

I drove that area about 10 days ago, and they had stripped the surface on several overpass approaches and putting down new asphalt on one of them.

Some of the road surfaces where it transitions from the bridge to the hwy get uneven and really bumpy. I think this is what they are "fixing".

I drive this stretch of I-10 a lot and I agree the "transitions" needed some fixing, but they are doing the whole thing, east and west bound, both lanes, even on/off ramps. Did you find the rest of the road in need of repair, or overlaying?

Actually, they are almost finished. At least they were smart enough just to work at night! Maybe they thought no one would notice! :cool:

I believe it's a mix like the one they had to put on over from 165 to lc. They have a lot of people going in median when it rains (they don't know how to slow down). From what I understand this mix gets water off faster. Something like that.

OK, like I said, I do drive this stretch quite often and agree that from 165 to LC it did "hold" water or at least stayed "wet" longer and the new over lay did definitely help. I just did not notice the same thing on the rest of the road, but whatever helps these drivers that do not know how to slow down when it rains to maintain control.

I-10 was closed in Acadia Parish again yesterday afternoon because of a wreck after an afternoon shower. Passenger truck hit an 18 wheeler that ended up in the median on it's side, it was a tanker which = HazMat!!!

This was the fifth time in just a few short weeks I-10 was closed in Acadia Parish because of accidents!!!!!!!! The one yesterday was just a couple of miles east of the head on of the two 18 wheelers that caught fire a couple weeks ago.

People need to learn how to drive! Y'all be careful out there, especially traveling with your families.

I may be wrong but I think they are grinding down the road surface under the overpasses to kept the same hight clearance under the overpasses.

HEY, something I can help with! lol It's a resurfacing job, not an overlay (and they will also mill and patch any problem spots such as the approaches). The resurfacing is to increase the friction rating as the stone at the surface gets polished by everyday traffic and becomes quite slick. It's basically a way to extend the life of the road without having to completely rebuild it.
