Where do you get them at?

Goatro 11-28-2009 08:34 PM

Big Mommas. S & S batteries in Baton Rouge on Jefferson Hwy.

Big Flounder 11-28-2009 08:43 PM

They have them at autozone for $230 a piece. Is that what you guys payed for them or do you know some where cheaper?

Ray 11-28-2009 08:56 PM

There are no cheap Optima batteries. But they are fantastic batteries.
AGM batteries will outlast any lead/acid battery, probably by double the
life span, but they cost more.
What ever you do, buy a good brand. I have bought cheap batteries for
my big boat and had to pay again for a good one.
I HATE Walmart. But I got stuck in Kenner with a dead battery on my truck
and bought new ones from the Super Walmart at 4 am in the morning.
It lasted 7 years before finally starting to get weak. They were the yeller
ones.

i like my interstate batteries. my starting battery is going on 4 years strong, i just had to change one of my trolling batteries a few weeks ago, its was in my boat for 3 years the other is still going !

Ray 11-28-2009 10:03 PM

If you have 2 trolling batteries, you should change them out at the same time.
If you don't, the older weaker one can cause the charger to overcharge the
new one.

i didn't know that! will that happen if they get charged one by one ?

Big Flounder 11-28-2009 10:10 PM

I do have 2 and I plan on changing both of them. The ones I have now were on charge for 2 days and never took a full charge. Well i went fishing Friday and they lasted a whole 30 minutes. I bought my boat new in May of 2008 and that is the batteries that came with it. That is my first boat so I have never purchased marine batteries before. Thanks for the input guys.

i was told to never store ur batteries not fully charged, charged them as soon as u get home or where ever u store ur boat. that is the first thing i do when i get home. always check ur water!

No, I thought your trolling motor batteries would be charged together.
Most trolling motors are connected in series or in parallel. Never seen
a set of batteries not charged together.

When you said you had to change one of your trolling motor batteries and the other is still going strong, I thought they would be connected. I never
seen a set up where the batteries are not connected.

Mine are charged together. When I pick up my new ones I'm going to have the old ones tested to see if one is stronger than the other.

i have seen them like that before but mine r in series. i guess what im trying to say is that if i were to disconnect them a charge them?
ok, like they r right now in a series. i have a 3 bank on board charger my trolling batteries each have there own bank, each battery should be getting each there own charge right ? 24 volt one bank goes to starting battery

Ray 11-28-2009 11:10 PM

I don't think you can charge a 24 volt bank seperately. Unless you have a disconnect switch and charge them at 12 volts each.

speck-chaser 11-28-2009 11:21 PM

Ive been using the wally world batteries for a while now. Usually get at least 4 yrs. out of them. I have a 4 bank dual pro that I plug in usaually as soon as I get back. I leave them plugged till its time to fish. Keep those batteries topped off and they will last a good while
