Dog's living large now in his new kennel

Worked on getting my kennels setup for a week and a half. I'm happy with how they came out. They drain to a septic that is strictly for my gameroom so no more smelly dog doo doo in the yard. The wall is to keep the doo doo in and the water from the yard out since the lowest corner where the drain sits is actually below grade. Put the metal roof up Monday and it was a hot son of a gun out there. Thank goodness for Miller Lite. Eventually the metal roof will cover the entire game room but some rotten wood needs to be replaced first. Anyways, thought I'd share in case anyone was looking into building some.

Thanks for taking care of your dogs, so many people don't..

i made one of those drum houses for my dog last year. he wouldnt touch it, he would rather lay in the rain! so i went and bought a nice expensive one... i think he got in that one 3-4 times in a year and thats cause i had a heat lamp on and it was snowing! nice build though

nice job buddy. mine should start pretty soon

Nice hound hotel. Who's the other dog?

Paulox86 08-15-2014 10:10 AM

I need some ideas on kennels. I gotta build two. Post pics and dimensions. I need ideas.

keakar 08-15-2014 10:20 AM

very nice

but I question the curb thing? I guess its maybe to keep yard water from getting to the kennel area but it also can block you from easy poop washing the floor and its a pee collector if the pad is slopped so it looks strange to see that used when it seams it would cause cleanup issues

I like that curb thats a good idea.

Curb is to keep water from yard out and keep urine and poop in so that I can rinse to the corner which is sloped and drains to my septic. Total slab dimensions are 14x 15. Kennels are 4'10"x10'2" so I can fit 3 on my slab if desired. Hopefully this CAD engineering drawing LOL will help you understand.

Spunt Drag, other dog is one I'm boarding for a buddy...and it paid for an extra kennel. He just moved this way from the New Orleans area and was going to board him with someone. I bring him along to pick up marks. He runs surprisingly hard for a HT trainers washout.

ok I get it now, its a poop chute kinda thing ;)

didn't realize you even put in a sewerage system for em lol. that's really a genius move and you did everything but enclose it and put in climate control for em.

or is that the next phase of construction to be done at a later date  JK

Do you have to kennel them because of neighborhood restrictions?

bbrown 08-15-2014 12:38 PM

That's a high priced ribbon dog, he keeps him under lock and key!!!

Don't have to kennel them for restrictions but don't like smelling dog poop and like keeping my dogs comfy and sanitary.

I'm considering closing in the gable side down to around 5' to prevent a blowing rain from coming in and potentially filling the septic up with rain water. I'm also considering the same thing on the wall facing the West to reduce the amount of direct sun exposure in the late summer months like now. The sun is in direct line of sight from 2:00pm to 6:00pm right now and let's face it, I don't like being in the sun during those hours right now if I don't have to.

that screen material they use to block off areas where blasting and painting is done would be a good choice as a sun screen and shade but still allow limited airflow so it allows some breeze to pass through it so it doesn't get hot yet will also block the cold winds and keep it warmer in winter and can hold heat in if you add portable heat for cold nights.

Roger that. Was just wondering is all. Got one of those wireless collar units to keep our dog in the yard. Works really good. Nice job on the kennel btw. They should be happy there.
