Newbie to this Forum - Planning Winter Vacation

Hello folks. I have just found your forum and would appreciate help in planning my winter fishing vacation. I have always fished Florida, Alabama, and around the Hopedale, LA areas, but have been doing some interesting reading about Grande Isle area. I target specks and reds exclusively, and for now will be land locked. What are my options? I understand there is a bridge/pier...is it productive in winter? Any other suggestions for this lost in Misery saltwater fisherman? Thanks, and good catching!.

Wish I knew more about that area in the winter, and from the bank. Hopefully someone will chime in, surprised you haven't gotten a response yet!

Bull reds are always on from the pier. Depending on the conditions, you can luck into other stuff too: drum, sharks, sheepshead, white trout, croaker. We've fished the pier a lot in winter and not had it get hot for specks, ever.

There are so many bull reds around, I bet they're in the surf too, with likely a better chance at slot reds in the surf. We focused our surf fishing in Cameron last year and did ok on slot reds in the surf, but I bet winter in Grand Isle is similar in the surf.

We'll post our results when we go this year. I have a small 16 ft aluminum boat. We usually just sit in the pass and catch bull reds. Send me a PM when you know your dates, maybe you can come along in the boat if that sounds fun to you or if you get a lead on some specks or slot reds.

The sides of hwy 1 can be really good in the winter. Look for moving water
