Trying different props
 

So I been thinking about trying some different props to see if I could get a little more performance out of my boat. What is the best way to go about this? Try to find people/friends that have props or can you go to a prop shop and try different props to see what performs better?

if its an outboard then im told you cant get a better performance prop then a Yamaha painted black ss prop unless you want to get into racing props and give up performance in other areas.

Does pitch or diameter matter at all Kaekar? Or is it just the fact that it is painted and is a Yamaha prop? This is lunacy.


For the OP, I believe there is a site that allows you to rent the props for trial then return when you are done. Not sure of the site, and I've never done it.

No brand or style is going to be the right one for you just because it worked for someone else, unless everything about your boats are identical. The previous poster is a full blown twit

Black yamaha props are good for the small outboards but to say all outboards is not accurate.

Something tells me it's a 22ft blazer bay with a 225 etec on it. Just a guess though...

What pitch are you running now? What is your speed and rpms at wot?

I'll check the pitch when I get home.....it's a 3 blade prop, but I really wanna try a 4 blade to see what a little more stern lift would do for me

what are your cruising and top end speeds now? what prop are you currently running?

Currently I have a Lexor 3 blade 23 pitch (pt# 9571-148-23). WOT is around 61-62 mph with no load and 5850-5950 rpms. Cruise is about 40-43 mph and if I remember right 3500-4000 rpm. i feel like I could use some more pitch without compromising my hole shot, right now it shoots right out the water no problem at all. I'm not very experienced with propping for performance so I really don't know all the variables I need to consider.

That solas lexor is a very soft prop.

I suggest you get with acadiana propeller in lafayette. If you buy a prop with him he will adjust the blades as needed to get the performance you are looking for. Very few props work exactly how you want it to out the box. Solas is a low grade prop. Not saying it's junk just not the best.

Lol.....i have no problem with you calling it junk.......it was the prop they fit on the motor when I bought it new (it was part of the package) I knew they wouldn't put a high end wheel on it. I figured I'd run it for a little while to see if I like it, but I knew in the end i would put another prop on.

I will give them a call at Acadiana propeller and see what they say.

it was not my fault he failed to include that info so why don't you complain to him for not including the info instead of me?

The pure bay is a little tricky to prop. I have a 24 pb and have played with a few props and got the best performance out of a mercury mirage with a lot of cup added for the 3 blade to bite better in turns when ran high on the jp. I cant give pitch advise as i run a suzuki with a different ratio than your rude.
