Walmart and anti fishing groups

I saw someone posted earlier about walmart donating $9 million to fund the federal red snapper lawsuit. I couldn't find any info on it. However I did find an interesting read. Apparently since 2011 walmart has been giving serious money to fund the very organizations that we are constantly at battle with not only for recreational angler rights but our Hunting rights. Organizations such as WWF and The EDF are serious threats to our passions and lively hoods for some of us.

One of the recipients that receives the most money is the ocean conservancy. I'm sure most of y'all are familiar with they're roll and stance in the federal red snapper lawsuit.

I can easily see them giving money to anti hunt and fish groups but what has me confused is why they would give the antis money then put their name on a big time bass fishing league like FLW?!?!Attachment 76735

This is nothing new.....all big corporations play on both sides of the fence.

They do the same with campaign contributions too. This is a long standing practice.

Either way that's a small percentage compared to how dedicated they are to killing recreational fishing. They stand to profit a lot more from sales of farmed fish.

The money was given through the Walton Family Trust. A total of 10 million was given to promote catch shares across the country. Their 2013 annual report can be found here.

If you want to read the mission statement it can be found here. Read the words carefully, they may shock you.

I have another report somewhere that as I recall showed that they gave a very large grant to EDF just before the federal law suit was filed. Not sure I can put my hands on it at the moment.

I was the one that previously stated it and I am the one that you will see pacing circles in front of the Walmart door like a crazy person cursing the world if and when I HAVE to go inside one of those stores.

Bass fishing is for the most part a catch and release sport, that is what the green groups want thus the recent NOAA report showing that for a growing part of the population the the fishing trip is more about the "experience" of fishing and less about what they catch. I don't recall the survey itself but I bet the questions were fashioned in a way that had people answering that they would be happy with their fishing trip even if it was a slow day. Had the questions been posed if they would still go fishing IF they were regulated out of keeping anything, the answers would have been different.

I'm betting if you banned every company that gave money to things you didn't agree with you'd be living off the land. It's all PR and they all do it.
