I want to duck hunt

I just bought some land by camp Edgewood. We explored the backside after a hard rain and like 200 ducks took off. Looked like a duck petting zoo.

Is it too late in season for setting blinds? Should I continue deer and hog hunting or switch to duck. I'm pretty green at the duck thing.

There was about 18" of water that stayed for about 3 days there's still duck in there but not as many.

It's definitely not too late. You don't need a blind in those woods. Just stand next to a tree. Go throw out a dozen decoys and give it a shot.

Could it be a fluke thing just from the flooded area?

I don't know the area. But flooded hardwoods a great for mallards and wood ducks. All this rain today should of filled it back up.

Feeder Blind

Man I bet they were thick.
I would set my blind up under that feeder, they seem to draw em in.

Lol... I'm about to start deer hunting out of my blind. Gonna put a feeder out, when the warden asks why I'm shooting ducks, I'm just trying to stop them eating all my deer corn.

Exactly! Haha no harm done mr. Popo

Matt Wahl

What birds did you see get up ? That's perfect ground/conditions for woodys and mallards

Dang I didn't think about that. Is there a baiting law in ducks ? I'm sure there is , I may just stick with deer. The deer are thick too. I'll do the duck thing next year. My father in law just got this one out there. Attachment 80118

Like I said. I'm pretty green but I'm thinking they were mallards.

Trout rivers 12-24-2014 01:58 AM

Well if you think they were then that's what you seen more then likely because woodys are medium to small and mallards are large and can't miss a drake big greenhead ..woody drakes are exaggerated in color very colorful

matt wahl 12-24-2014 02:01 AM

Yep. Big green headed suckers.

Trout rivers 12-24-2014 02:02 AM

Yes very punishable fines for duck baiting be careful. I would think you would be fine though ....up to 10 yr prison 250k fine crazy huh? Lol

Trout rivers 12-24-2014 02:04 AM

Yes sir that's natursl Viagra for us bird hunters when those green heads wants some timber life

matt wahl 12-24-2014 02:06 AM

Ok ... No duck hunting this year at all. Waiting till next year. I'm not shooting a duck anywhere near a feeder. Plus I have a whole year to look at rules and outfit for it.
Thanks fellas

Trout rivers 12-24-2014 02:09 AM

I'd say its a grey area Matt with the deer feeder but best to call warden and ask before

kibb 12-24-2014 07:57 AM

It's something like you can't hunt until 30 days after the last piece of food is gone.

C-Bass2mouth 12-24-2014 08:02 AM

Keep cornin if you're going to wait till next year. lol

Gerenemo 12-29-2014 08:02 AM

It's actually 14 days after all "bait" is removed. I would not chance it for this year. However, for future reference I'm sure alot of us would be happy to assist you with your duck hunting education and help you get rid of those "Pesky" ducks!!!
