Please explain

When fishing what a flat is. I hear/read about them but I'm having a slow moment. Can someone define this for me.

The fish are holding on a flat.

A flat bottom fulla mud

A mud flat, usually adjacent to a ledge. Could be a sand flat though, but not normally where where we are.

to explain it better, a flat is just an area with no depth change, usually associated near ledges, drop-offs etc. Could be mud, sand, other.

Here are some flats in the worm. some are big, some are small.

basicly just an area of flat level bottom without much depth change, as the name implies its a "flat" area, most oyster beds could be thought of as flats but the more common picture it describes is sandy flat areas.
