4 stroke repower

Not enough attention to the boating section so posting here. Yamaha and suzuki are my top choice. Seem to both be reliable motors with the zuk being considerably cheaper. Any inputs/opinion on these two?

I've had both they were both great motors. Suzuki will save you some cash. I've never heard any complaints on Suzuki.

Ive owned 3 Yamis, Ive never had a problem from any of them, although my #3 is still new (20hrs) so......

Own a 250 duke. Gear ratio is 2.29. Yamaha is 1.87. Both great motors. Duke gets the boat up great propped correctly

I have a suzuki 175 with 80 hours. Solid motor sips gas. 60 miles crusing 35 40 on quarter tank gas. No complaints

I love my suzuki 250, no problems other than routine maintenance

bayouchub 02-18-2015 01:19 PM

Suzuki is usually a little faster but a little confusing to prop with the different ratio. Ive had 2. Great motors. Also suzuki normally offers longer warranty.

No experience with the Suzuki at all. Just recently retired my old Mariner 40 and replaced it with a Yamaha 40 4-stroke and absolutely love it so far. Plenty power, quiet, sips fuel....Probably a little drive for you but if you go with the Yamaha, I also highly recommend Breaux\Daigle in Pierre Part. He beat everyone else's price by quite a bit.

Why repower? Sell the Mako and buy a big catamaran with twins so we can run deep this summer.

This sounds like the perfect solution to me

Had a 250 zuke with 600hrs when I sold it. Never had a problem. Have had 4 yamaha 4 strokes and never a problem with any of these. BUT believe it or not but the suzuki was quieter at idle than any of my yamahas. And they were 115 and 150. Not that it means anything. Just saying.

SGib 02-18-2015 05:54 PM

Zach sold the scb. If mako goes we have nothing to run the lake in.

SGib 02-18-2015 05:57 PM

Meaux did you repower or buy it with the zuk?

meaux fishing 02-18-2015 06:02 PM

Bought it with the zuk. Bought it used with less than 200 hrs on motor

SGib 02-18-2015 06:11 PM

Alright price on 250vs300 isn't very much at all....
