need help on boat!
 

Lately my boat has been short on power, i think my onboard battery charger is going out but not sure. Its a three bank battery charger one is for a electronic:confused: battery and two for the 24v trolling motor batteries (new). after plugging the charger in for several hours there is a strong sulfur smell and i still have no power to talk of. any knowledge would be great, anyone know who might will look at it for a reasonable price. thanks in advance for the help.

have you checked the water level in you batteries? where are you and the boat located?

ive checked the new batteries and the water was fine, the electronic battery is a littler older and its a waterless battery, the boat and I are in DeRidder but an hour drive to get it looked at is fine.

I would go have the battery checked first. Usually a parts place like oriellys has a battery tester for free.

do you have a multimeter? are you batteries warm or hot after trying to charge? what are the voltages on each battery before and after "charging"? normally that "sulfer" smell is due to the positive and negative plates getting welded together internally.

It sounds like you have a bad battery. You may want to take the battery to an auto parts store where they can put a resistance/load on it to see what it does. However this is probably a waste of time since you notice an odor and its not charging. Time for a new battery im sure. It would be good to test the voltage at the battery terminals if it is convenient but you already said you could tell it was low on charger so I don't think its necessary.

I'm going to plug up the boat and test the batteries although two of them are 3 months old.
