flat boat repower opinions

hey guys i've got a 16x48 flat boat with a center console that i need to repower. it will be used primarily to fish and duck hunt in the marsh, mostly sabine refuge. Should i get a 40hp outboard or a 35hp gatortail ?

If you want speed go with the outboard. (40 Tohatsu 4 stroke) if you need to get really shallow go with the gatortail.

Unless you were never going in the marsh and/or absolutely needed the speed, I'm partial to the mud motor. However, you may not be happy with the performance of a 35 hp mud motor on that short of a boat.

You do realize there's atleast a 4K difference between a 40hp outboard and a 35 hp gatortail?

I love a mudmotor when u need em but there pretty much a PITA when u don't.

Yes is realize there's a big price difference I'm trying to get some feedback from duck hunters that are familiar with Sabine. Do I need a Gatortail because if not I'd rather the outboard

If you have any doubt get the outboard. You will never be happy with the mud motor. If you need a mud motor you would know. I have both and to be honest use a outboard the most. When I need the mud motor I'm glad I have it but for everyday use the outboard is best.

Gator tail now has a fuel injected 37 hp.
