maybe worth a look if you head north of hwy90, atleast i should smell better if you stay away from ambasseduer caffery, i have been told there are ponds north of the airport that you can get into by boat, if you need someone to tag along let me know

anything taken out of the Vermillion River..... should not be consumed. If you do, goodluck!

Thanks

Thanks.
I hear about how gross the river is, been out on it a few times just cruising, but have avoided the basin since I know nothing about it, other than its easy to get lost and there's a lot of people out there that may help you get lost.
And the closest thing I have to a GPS is my phone.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take all I can get.

I have never heard of anyone frogging in the Verm and would not eat anything caught in the Verm

Poo attracts flies, flies attract frogs. I don't see where you can go wrong.

try Bayou Benoit or Henderson area....both are excellent place to go froggin...

Granted the Vermilion river does have lots of floating trash and debris, but I don't think its any dirtier than other waterways in south Louisiana. The floating trash is more cosmetic and doesnt make the fish or other animals that live in it unfit to eat. Lake Hendrson as well as many other very popular lakes are highly contaminated with heavy metals such as mercury and PCBs but alot folks that post on this forum regularly eat fish caught out of these waterbodies.

Grew up in The Berry and passed by that garbage dump all the time.

But BasinMaster is right, besides from catching fish directly down stream from some kind of discharge (I have done and they tasted funny, only once) I don't think eating as much fish as you could catch would do any harm. All that water ends up in the same places you fish anyway.

If you eat catfish in a restruant in lafayette you have probably eaten fish from the river.

woopazz403 03-16-2015 03:39 PM

I've regularly frogged the Verm during the summer months. Never catch a lot but we do catch some monsters. They taste the same if not better than the frogs caught in Henderson. Eat them on a regular basis and haven't died yet. You can also catch some nice size cats in the Verm if you play your cards right.

Vermillion river is a sewage ditch.
But I'm sure its ok.

shellman 03-16-2015 08:02 PM

Used to catch lots of frogs south of perry bridge

rustyb 03-16-2015 08:17 PM

Further south you go the better the river smells

biggun 03-16-2015 08:19 PM

I attended a gulf coast safety and training group meeting last friday at the Petro Club in Laf.

We had a speaker from St DEQ.. His presentation was on water quality of Teche, Verm. and Lafourche Bayous.

He indicated that Teche/Verm. watershed are at this time; very clean and fish are extremely safe to EAT.

rustyb 03-16-2015 09:13 PM

But all of lafayettes sewage run in the river. And it smells like sewage. Its probably safe. But its hard to get past the shiat smell.
