Last 6 days on Lake Calcasieu
 

I will tell you the good and bad over last 6 days .
Thursday was my worst day out since i started guiding for myself on this lake. Meet with muddy muddy water , high winds and zero bite at all . I covered every square inch of the lake until I made the call and sent my clients home free of charge and reschedule trip .
Spent the next day Fri scouting high and low from sun up till sun down until I found an area holding trout.
Saturday , Sunday and Monday we were able to put some decent amounts of trout in the box !

Fished with some great guys this week and had fun fishing !!

As of 2:00pm today the lake is still muddy and maybe 1-2 inches of visibility but dead calm.

Let me add this very important info

If you plan in fishing close to any marsh or banks make sure you have some kind if spray that will kill NATS

Never seen Nats this bad here ever !!!! Even the boat stalls are not safe !

Thanks for the report. I ran a full tank of gas and then some out of my boat on Saturday looking for fish...no luck.

They all went to Sabine.

Good report W glad to see some reports are coming in. Go get you some amber romance for those gnats.

I was out on Sunday and the lake was a mudhole. I'm glad you found them W. I've got some buddies from East Texas that prefer to fish Sabine when it's muddy. They say the muddy spots warm up quicker.

I fished blue camp area with a million other boats Saturday and drifted commissory reef twice and got skunked.

Have to stay away from crowds this time of the year when fish are real scattered and not stacked up

When you have boats coming and going out of one area it's best to advoid that area because your not going to catch any kind of numbers with lots of boat traffic
You have to avoid boats and go off and then you will start to find how nice it is to fish with out any body in site

( we fished 99.99% if Sat by ourself until that one guy needed to come drive 4ft from us to see what we were doing )

Good advice. I was out early and all of a sudden I looked around and there was crowd.

Nice work finding some fish. Out of curiousity, when was the last time you recall the lake being this fresh?? Looks like we are on point for a good spring bite other than the salinity.

I can't remember is staying this muddy this long any time in recent years , but last March was a tough fishing for many if y'all recall . Just go try and find fishing reports from March and April last year .

We had a very mild winter so I think fishing is going to pick up fast and fish will start stacking on reefs down south soon

We might of missed some of those good days along the banks and shallow fishing this year with going into April and still having muddy water all the way to lake Charles.

Yeah last spring was tough, everything was late due to the late cold fronts. This year LOTS of bait up north and good size bait which to me points to a good spring, other than the muddy water and low salinity. I agree I think it's going to break open real soon on the south end, just hope we get some southerly winds to get the water right up north.

Guys I appreciate all of the great details in this post about the lake and patterns . I grew up fishing freshwater and started fishing saltwater a few years ago but mostly around Lake Charles. I had a smaller boat and couldnt really fish much of big lake till now since I just got a boat big enough to fish the entire lake. I grew up in a small town called Hathaway so I didnt have access to saltwater fishing till now. Thanks to posts like this im starting to piece it all together. Its been a big learning curve though.

You need to go spend a day with W.........
best money spent if you really want to pick this up!
