Wade fishing vs. from the boat?

I see alot of pics of people catching hawgs while wade fishing. I don't do it because I just like the comfort of fishing from my boat.

Does it make that big of a difference wade fishing for trophy trout versus from a boat and why? Seems like drifting/trolling can cover more area.

BTW, I've seen alot of pics of hawgs caught from a boat also.

More stealthy wadding. Not mention it forces you to concentrate on the area you are fishing and makes you think twice about finding greener pasture

When its warm you don't have to worry about stopping fishing to use the bathroom.

BloodKnot 05-11-2015 10:29 AM

Wading makes you slow down and fish certain areas harder. You are limited to depth, obviously. I do both and caught big fish both ways.

Hull slap bad. And not drifting so fast good.

Depends on the conditions in the lake if you ask me. If they are piled up in good areas then wading isnt really necessary. With the lake being in the condition it has been in lately I find wading to be a much more productive method to chase trout. Find one or two in a general area and hop out and you can start combing and working the area more efficiently...I've done more wading this year than I have in the past and I really enjoy it, I find you can also work certain lures more properly if you are wading.

Not if you got holes in your waders

Bdub 05-11-2015 07:09 PM

Very true Clampy! Hard to wade/fish with leaky waders in 40* weather...Gonna have to try that again sometime haha

evis102 05-11-2015 07:20 PM

Boat fishing is more productive by far. I just put waders on and walk around for exercise.

Spend $40,000 on a bay boat just to anchor up and get out of it.

Bdub 05-11-2015 09:01 PM

All about getting TO the spot lol

LMAO. That's exactly what I told some Texans at a gas station once. :D

make sure you get your wading license... big fines for not having it

Andy C 05-12-2015 07:17 AM

You see me in the water look out my boat is out there somewhere running around!!!

Yes. Why? Bc its the most salt life you can be. Becoming one with the fish.

Both wading and boat fishing have their pros and cons. I've been wading Big Lake for almost 16 yrs now. I can definitely say that I have caught way more big fish wading. On the windy days you can ease along a flat at your own pace. There is no hull slap. There is no fish flopping around on the floor or cooler. You can work an area very thoroughly and work your bait in a more effective manner.

On the flip side. You are restricted to where you can wade at because of water depth. I have caught lots of big fish from the boat also (most of those big fish were at the end of my cast).

Good Luck

Grew up fishing Baffin Bay. Stayed in the boat for meat hauls ( we also caught a lot of big fish this way) Wade fished with artys only when we were targeting Big Girls. The older I got, the less I waded. Now it's pretty much in a boat the few times I go each year.

the biggest thing people overlook is just how noisy it is to have even small ripples lapping at your boat, it makes a big difference in weather your being quiet or totally silent

Bdub 05-12-2015 09:47 PM

Or a trolling motor....People ***** about others rolling up with the big motor on a reef in between other boats, but that bay boat with that trolling motor running makes just as much noise....All about the approach...with wading you make a more natural noise in my opinion
