Deer with K-9's

2 Attachment(s)
My brother shot this deer last year at his lease in the Basin and just received it back from getting it mounted. When it came back he noticed the deer appeared to have K-9 teeth. He wanted me to ask the deer "experts" how common is this or if anyone has heard about this?

:D

Apparently other species of deer have them but it is rare in whitetails...

Those are in about the same spot that Elk get their Ivory Teeth for bugling... maybe some correlation there?

Thats something new to me. I wonder if it is common and simply not noticed since most deer are not checked for them? I imagine you would have to really look for it.

It is not that uncommon. Most people don't see them when they clean the deer because when you age a deer you typically look at the bottom teeth. When I was in school they had a pretty large collection of jaws with Canine teeth in the lab.

Here is a little article about it..
