Live Bait Setup

Hey guys! I am new to fishing with live bait and I am looking for some pointers on how best to set up my rod when fishing with shrimp and croaker minus a cork. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

From the hook back to the rod in this order. Hook, 18-24" leader, swivel, 3/4oz egg sinker free sliding up and down your line. Google Carolina rig for pics. Cast and fish it on the bottom. Lift it up and set it back down every now and again

if you are fishing near structure that is easy to get hung up in try freelining or adding a small splitshot or two to your line

pre make your rigs at home and store them in little zip lock baggies. It'll save you a lot of time on the water.

Google up Carolina rig, Bottom Rig, and Sliding Cork. There's others and variations but these are the 3 main ones for gulf coast fishing.

Split Shot

Sometimes, just adding split shot about 18 inches above your hook works best especially with mullet. Just add or remove the right amount by using pinch type split shot.

I sometimes have better results just using a jig head and nothing else mostly on croaker, mullet, and coachoes I hook them through the the lips from bottom it gives the bait a more natural look when the weight is on the bottom but mostly just trying to figure the bite out is the main thing because sometimes they just want Carolina rigs . Main thing is to try different approach and presentations

Ill use this for my Carolina set up, with a 18-24" floro leader to a circle hook
