Need a good reef anchor

I have a 21ft boat. What's kind of anchor I need for anchoring on a reef. My fortress doesnt work on reefs...

The best ancor I found is my 12' Talon

alphaman 06-18-2015 09:11 PM

I'm currently saving up for that $2000 up grade! Not quite there yet though! Lol

I like my fortress anchor. It work great everywhere but the reefs.

Do you have the 11lb or 16lb claw.

yigodiver 06-18-2015 09:33 PM

I think the 16, need to check I have about 4' chain, with shackles each end and the thimble rope, no issues.

alphaman 06-18-2015 09:33 PM

What about the Grappler/Mighty Mite anchors

yigodiver 06-18-2015 09:38 PM

Just checked, I go the 11lb.

I hold on reefs all the time, never an issue. I listened to a recommendation, thanks 'W' glad I did, is big fits in the anchor box. Use in sand on ICW, to Oysters, to east side reefs.

Richter Anchor is all I use., but grapples are great to. The plus to the Richter is they are easy to retrieve. If you go with a Richter Anchor, just make sure it is the right size for your boat.

This is what I have along with a fortress and a power pole. I can count on one hand how many times I took out the fortress. I love this thing and I have used it just about everywhere. Works in mud, sand, reef, rocks, I have stuck it in grating in on a rig. It doesn't take a mile of rope to set and it doesn't take a crane to pull it off bottom. The only place it hasn't held is Caldwell when the tide is donkey. But the fortress and the power pole failed there as well. I think I paid 40$ for it at Touchards.

Where did you get that one?

And I really don't take out my fortress much at all being that I have an ipilot trolling motor.

True story. Fortress is a great anchor but I hardly use anymore.

Went last month with a buddy with big boat. Fished somewhere called T booty or something and buncha boats were anchored down and we had a big ground rod and just used a big sledgehammer and anchored with that. Worked well. We didn't catch any and didn't see anybody catch either but most left about 5 minutes later. They were all mad that the fish weren't biting. Everybody was hollering. Beats a day at work though

Thats odd, usually the banging simulates work on them oil rigs, and you know how much them fish like the rigs!

Must have been an off day.
