Time spent in 1 spot?
 

When fishing, how much time to you give fishing a certain spot before you move to another area?

Depends on so many variables. The majority of the time you have to fish where the wind will allow you. Once you've located these areas then you can make decisions based on tide moon etc. If I'm fishing a major or minor feeding period with tide movement and I'm not seeing active bait or catching fish I'm hauling ***.

i give it 15 minutes at least and if the bite suddenly stops, i give it that same 15 minutes before i make a move.

if dolphins move in i just leave because they scatter everything but i may try the spot again later in the day if i caught there. some say they continue to catch fish with dolphins around but i find that's rare

Depends who I am with, if I don't like them, stay a little longer say an hour, then head to the house, tell them they are not biting today.

Other than that I stick and jab, if I like conditions and in a good spot I spend more time, using multiple techniques, caught some nice fish this way.

I think you should stay on a spot a little bit longer. You might be able to figure out there pattern.[emoji41] [emoji106]

I found 15 min. max but will leave much sooner if see no good signs and stay much longer if see good signs.

I am looking at water clarity, current, and bait fish.

20 min. read that somewhere once and it stuck in my head.

If I don't see a boat catching within 3-5 minutes, I'm out

If I'm fishing a set of waders I'll usually give it a little longer.

Im no expert but I've learned that 15min is the cut off. I may not move far but I move. Trout fishing is about moving till you find em unless you are a guide and have a better idea of the patterns. Then all you have to do is fish for 15 min and leave with your limit.

I focus on bull reds. We've proven the good spots lots of times. We soak crab until the bulls show up to play. Sometimes we move after a couple of hours, but it is usually more about waves than about a better spot to fish.

The groups of bulls move from one predictable spot to another. Sit in one good spot long enough and they will come by.

Most of the time i try to drift an area first . islands ,oyster reefs etc have folks casting out both sides of the boat to locate fish. start getting bit then set anchor (QUIETLY).
If you are fishing points then try to set up to drift into casting distance and see if you get bit before setting anchor. Use the trolling motor as little as possible .
If 3 - 4 of us are fishing and no one gets a bite then just move on to the next spot and try again.
If you are fishing a very small reef , rock pile or island you may have to anchor to fish it. Then no more than 15 min.

I never worry about time when fishing. I just find a area and put the trolling motor down and take off fishing. Might go a mile moving along before I catch one then I work the area good until its time to troll along again. Might be hard to do with a big heavy bay boat unless you have good batteries.
