Dealing with Flotant (Floating Marsh)
 

I am curious how others go about creating and maintaing a pond in the marsh, and how to keep the flotant from closing back in on the pond once opened up. I have tried pushing back the mats and staking them with two x fours, but with limited success. It is not possible to drain and burn.....:confused:
any ideas appreciated.

You can drain and burn flotant, but its pretty persistent. It will come back.

I've heard dynamite works very well. Don't bury it...all that will do is blow it straight up then it falls right back down in the pond. Right on the surface will blow it horizontally out of the pond. Lots of fun!

Dude... Unfortunately my dynamite supply is running low right now....Walmart is out .
Any other realistic ideas ?

Tannerite in place of dynamite. They sell that at academy.

Tannerite is alot of fun. It should do the job, never tried it in water.

I will give it a shot at the camp this summer.

I've never tried it in water either. lol But I've seen some pretty impressive videos

Best thing we have found in our marsh is to spray the edges.

Also a marsh buggy with a buffalo on it works wonders.

If you want to go the buggy route I know someone from Welsh who has buggys and bush hogs and sprays.

Went to check out some property and it was solid floatant in the canals. I told one of my hippie coworkers that it was gonna take a lot of time and effort to open those canals back up and he said we should just let it build back up and that was just nature's way of trying to rebuild the land that was there before. He had a point I reckon

Hot weather causes the carbon monoxide to come out of the ground. That movement upwards causing it to pull mud and dead grass with it to the surface. It sits on top of the water and begins to clump up and form beds that are very rich for marsh grass to grow. We keep ours back out of the pond by spraying 2-3 times a yr at the edges of trails and ponds with diquat. Haven't had a problem one. Just have to keep up with it. It's a full summer time job. Spraying and running trails. If you want to hunt though it's the cheapest thing to do. Plus I have a buddy with a marsh buggy and a roller and a bush hog on it. That always helps too.
