Just curious, how many of you guys flush your motor after fishing salt water?

I flush every time. I did add a quick connect on the back of my Optimax so that the hose connects easily.

Everytime. 90 force (pos) I flush for a few minutes till the water tastes fresh coming out. Then I usually cut off the water and let it run out so its not sitting up in the water pump. Extreme changes in water temp can crack the plastic impeller. That's why I pump it dry. Motor is a 97 model. If had it 10 years and changed pump once and it wasn't broken when I changed it.

Although I fish salt all the time I run out of Venice so the river flushes it for me. When I run out of Empire I flush usually flush it. Some times I am going back to Venice the next day so I don't bother.

I flush every time I go in salt water and make sure its a minimum of 30+ running on the hose.

if I go fresh water I don't flush and if im in brackish water that has no salt taste, I don't flush.

flushing might be an extra hassle but its damn cheap insurance to make your motor last longer.

I'd like to hear from some of the guides that fish everyday. I used to flush religiously after every trip. Nowadays if I am fishing the next day I don't flush it.

Me too. I can't believe guides who put their boats up on a lift are flushing every single time.

Every time. If I fish in the evening sometimes I will wait till the next day but it still gets flushed.

My boat mechanic told me to take a miracle grow feeder fill it with antifreeze and connect a hose to the end of it to the muffs and run till it not green anymore and it will remove all
The salt from your motor

latravcha 07-29-2015 01:23 PM

I always run the boat with the hose connected for about 30 minutes..

I also take the motor cover off and spray it down with salt away and rinse.
