First shark I have seen in Kelso Bayou
 

This dude was caught on my neighbor's dock last night. We are located where Kelso Bayou meets the ship channel in Hackberry, about 16.5 miles north of the jetties. I guess the salinities are on the rise, so ought to have good water this weekend for the tournament. A hardhead was used as bait.

Sand shark? I have no idea.

Bull sharks can thrive in both saltwater and freshwater and can travel far up rivers. They have even been known to travel as far up as the Mississippi River in Illinois,[2] although there have been few recorded freshwater human-shark interactions

Looks like a Land Shark...now. Name it Cecil.

Pretty common in the Atchafalaya basin....for a shark anyway. Do a search on here for Bullshark and you will find several posts about them. I bet they are around there fairly often, at least a few times a year, and you never knew it. Especially the young ones like the one in the picture. The females travel into estuaries like Calcasieu Lake to give birth. That's why you tend to see the smaller ones in places like Calcasieu Lake and the Atchafalaya basin.

Man I gotta ask, did y'all intentionally bait up and cast out a 12" hardhead or did the shark hit the hardhead after being hooked?

Well that is a valid question, but no.

Lol, yep, the guy that caught it rigged up a hardhead. He was targeting big gar in the area and couldn't catch any mullet with a cast net and said what the h... and rigged up the hardhead. The hardhead didn't last a minute before the shark hit it.

I have heard there were a couple caught at the Civic Center board walk in LC. Not sure if that's true or not.
